Asymtek Introduces Axiom™ X-1020 Dispensing System
for Semiconductor Package and Printed Circuit Board Assembly

Carlsbad, CA — Asymtek introduces the Axiom™ X-1020, a mid-range inline dispensing system for semiconductor package and printed circuit board assembly. The Axiom X-1020 is a completely new platform incorporating numerous features that allow it to achieve a level of performance and accuracy not previously available. It forms the basis for the next generation of dispensers and will likely be the industry standard in the future. The X-1020 system is ideal for applications such as flip chip and CSP underfill, dam and fill, solder paste, thermal compounds, and more.

The Axiom X-1020 utilizes a Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, an entirely new serial bus architecture of distributed processors. A processor mounted directly on the dispense head controls the valve, needle heater, height sensor, lighting and associated I/O. A second controller manages all of the conveyor-related functions including the width and belt motors, substrate heaters, all conveyor sensors and pneumatic actuators, as well as the SMEMA interface. The main controller hosts the operating system and Fluidmove® for Windows NT® (FmNT) application software.

This new bus architecture enabled the introduction of Dynamic Dispensing Control™ (DDC)
of the dispense head through closed-loop servo technology. For the first time, the actual position of the dispense pump motor can be controlled with unparalleled precision for accurate dispensing of dots and lines. In addition, linear encoders mounted on the cable drive for the X- and Y-axes for accurate position control gives the user much greater flexibility than seen before on a dispensing system.

The Axiom X-1020 system incorporates numerous improvements to many of Asymtek’s advanced process control features. A new integrated calibration module condenses the tactile needle sensor, vacuum purge station and mass flow sensor into a compact unit, resulting in maximum efficiency and minimal wasted motion. A new vision system has a field of view of 12.5 mm [0.5 in.] and uses a new lighting system with both red and blue LEDs that can be independently set for 255 light levels. The height sensor has been re-configured to allow a second valve to be positioned closer to the camera and valve.

Designed from the ground up, the Axiom X-1020 builds upon Asymtek’s years of experience to deliver the latest, most advanced dispensing technology in a cost-effective system. Its ergonomic design, modular construction, and extensible bus architecture make it the best value high-throughput dispensing system available on the market today.

Asymtek supplies award-winning automated fluid dispensing systems to the semiconductor, surface mount, electronics packaging and industrial markets. Together, Asymtek and parent company Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ: NDSN) form one of the world’s largest businesses dedicated to dispensing.
